Orka Ice Cube Tray, Blue Review

Orka Ice Cube Tray, Blue
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I highly recommend this ice cube tray for freezing homemade baby food. The lid just sits on top, so it doesn't get stuck and is tall enough that it doesn't smash the food being frozen. The food "cubes" are super easy to get out if you just run some warm water over the bottom, then hold the tray upside down over the lid and punch the flexible bottom of each compartment - the "cubes" just fall right into the lid! Very convenient! The compartments only hold 1/2 oz. each, half the size of standard ice cube trays, but that just makes it easier to defrost, so I don't see that as a negative. I originally ordered two of these, but for the bulk of food I make, I think I may buy two more. (Just as a clue for how much they hold, one pureed sugar pumpkin filled up two trays with a little pumkin left over.)

Tired of working too hard to get ice cubes out of a tray? The Orka tray was designed to solve exactly this problem. The flexible bottom of the tray is easy to press and pops frozen contents out immediately. The tray's water-tight lid prevents spills and keeps out freezer odors. The stackable trays are dishwasher safe for easy cleaning.

Prepara Volcano 4-Piece Pop Set Review

I was looking for a small ice tray to make my own ices for my 2 yr old son. The handles are perfect for his grip. When the juices of the ice melts, it goes into the small opening of the handle. The only thing I was not happy with, once the cup is filled, the handle doesn't snap into place. It doesn't seal the liquids. I have to place a plate underneath, in case it spills.

Tupperware Ice Tups Popsicle Maker Set Review

Tupperware Ice Tups Popsicle Maker Set
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My mother bought these as a gift for my 2-year-old. I agree with what one of the other reviewers mentioned, the lids do NOT fit. I tried setting them up without liquid inside, and neither my husband nor I could get ANY of the lids to fit any of the molds. It is a terrible design. They do function well enough with the lid simply resting on the mold, however. Another problem I have is the molds fit very loosely in the base, so getting a full tray from the countertop to the freezer shelf is about as precarious as tightrope walking.I have made more than one mess just by tilting a little too far as I tried to lift them in.
I do like that the plastic is flexible. In the past, we've had problems with rigid plastic sticks snapping off and breaking after a few uses. The flexibility makes it durable. I do like the size as well - not too large for my toddler, but still enough to be a substantial treat. I also like the fact that each mold is separate, which makes life a little easier if you want to rearrange them around the freezer once they've set.
The price is outrageous. I'm sad my mother spent this much on a product that is definitely not superior quality. I think we're paying for the Tupperware brand name, and not workmanship or design. I would be more forgiving of its flaws if it were less expensive.

ICE CREAM MAKER Review

ICE CREAM MAKER
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I really love this little ice cream maker. I live alone, but often have an extra for dinner, and this is perfect. I had a larger one from when my kids were all at home, and when it died, I knew I wanted a way to make small batches. Homemade ice cream does not store well. I searched for a long time before I made my decision.
This little one is perfect, and it works like a charm. I keep both bowls in the freezer, so I can make two different flavors if I choose. I can't understand how anyone could claim it is hard to clean. The paddle and lid pop apart easily, and into the dishwasher. The freezer bowls take a swish of hot water, dry them and back into the freezer.
Most important -- it works. I make my own yogurt, and easily make frozen yogurt in minutes with no strange ingredients. I set it running while we eat -- usually takes about 10 minutes. I hop up to take the paddle out, and let it sit until we are ready for dessert. A quick stir, and it is perfect consistency. You can make up to 12 oz in one bowl -- perfect for two people. I especially love that it works equally well when I am making just a tiny amount for just me. If you love to experiment with exotic flavors that may be wonderful or awful (or expensive), you can make tiny batches to perfect your recipe.
I've been making ice cream for over 20 years, and I am having more fun than I ever did with my big machine. Easy to use, easy to clean, easy to store, makes great ice cream, and is as cute as can be -- what's not to love.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this ice cube tray!!!! We don't have an automatic ice maker so I wanted something as easy as I could get. Struggling with ice cube trays is no fun. No need with this product. If you don't overfill the tray, the cubes will pop out as soon as you click the tab on the underside. I loved it so well, I bought 8 of them after I bought the first two! No more running out of ice and fighting with the trays!

Releasing ice cubes from their trays is notoriously difficult - but now there's QuickSnap. Similar in style to a conventional ice tray, it has a unique switch mechanism, which holds the ice cubes securely in place until required. Fill QuickSnap with water just like a conventional ice tray. When ice is needed, simply twist the tray to loosen the cubes and then push each switch on the reverse, in the direction of the arrow, to release one ice cube at a time - effectively snapping each out of its individual compartment. With QuickSnap you only release the amount of ice cubes you really need, whilst the rest remain secure in the tray and can be placed back in the freezer. Also perfect for serving ice straight into drinks, without touching the cubes. Dishwasher safe. Green. By Joseph Joseph.

Fred Ice Princess Star-Shaped Ice Cube Tray with Straws Review

Fred Ice Princess Star-Shaped Ice Cube Tray with Straws
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
These ice cubes are a hit with the 4 year old. We have filled them up with juice and made a nice treat and later used them in her drink (2 straws is very convenient. The silicone tray is a pretty color and very flexible - she can remove the ice herself.
There are a few downsides - I dislike that the ice is all the way at the bottom of the star. A few times we have had just enough ice over that it blocks the straw (easily fixed within minutes). Additionally, while the straw seems thick and durable, if you lose it - be warned - there is a bend in the straw so that it fits into plugs on each end, so you won't be able to easily replace it.
It is a bit pricey for what it actually is - but very fun.

Helman Carnival Ice Cream Maker - ICM562 Review

Helman Carnival Ice Cream Maker - ICM562
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We bought this product as a Christmas gift this year. I liked that it made soft serve style, it used simple ingredients and looked easy to use.
It was!
The drum must be in the freezer for at least 24 hours before you want to make ice cream so I immediately washed and dried it and placed it in our freezer where we have decided to 'store' it so the kids can make ice cream whenever they desire it without having to wait.
Ingredients are simple; milk, cream, sugar and vanilla.
It took about 25-28 minutes of churning but the ice cream was stiff and perfect. It was not 'melty' or too soft. It was perfectly 'soft serve' just like you get at a restaurant.
You leave the machine running to force it to dispense from below. The only thing I wish I could change is to have it dispense in a constant flow as McDonalds or similar can do, but because the paddle is what dispenses the ice cream it comes out in 1-2 inch 'strips' with each pass of the plastic paddle from the inside.
Soft Serve in less than 30 minutes with quick clean up and easy storage (especially if you keep the drum in the freezer!).

Rival 8804-BL 4-Quart Oval Ice Cream Bucket, Blue Review

Rival 8804-BL 4-Quart Oval Ice Cream Bucket, Blue
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Works as advertised, makes fine ice cream. Instructions are brief and clear. Well-made for the price. About the size of a small wastebasket, fits easily into one side of a double sink. I think the size is an excellent compromise between the countertop units and the big churns.
The can is thin deep-drawn aluminum with no seams at the bottom to trap salt (like a soda can, but not nearly that thin). People have complained of it getting pinholes from corrosion during storage, but I think this must be from forgetting to rinse all salt from the bucket, or not drying can or bucket thoroughly. I would recommend storing the can upside down in the bucket so that any possible moisture/corrosion will be at the rim where it will do little harm, but the can will still be protected from dents.
The motor is silent but the gear train is noisy, because it's all spur gears. All gears but the final one are die-cast zinc, and the final looks like filled nylon or acetal. Gears and shafts are greased with white grease. I believe they should hold up nicely in home use. Motor is fan-cooled and has a self-resetting overheat protector.
All in all a good, lightweight but honest product that should last well if you get all the salt and moisture off after use.

Rival GC8250 Soft Serve Ice Cream Maker Review

Rival GC8250 Soft Serve Ice Cream Maker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this ice cream maker as a 2nd unit - I also have the GC8191. I read so many reviews that claimed the product didn't work at all - I have no idea what the users were doing wrong - but it was pretty clear to me.
I followed the instructions regarding how long to freeze the bowl - common sense dictates that you have to freeze the bowl first...how else would it work? I froze mine for 24 hours, prepared the recipe as instructed for Strawberry Sorbet, and turned the machine on. In 25 minutes I had a lovely sorbet, it comes out soft and can be easily served that way or can be frozen for a few hours to make it firm. I tried again with the easy vanilla ice cream recipe - great results in 30 minutes.
Here's the low down:
Don't use a greater volume of ingredients than recommended - it won't freeze properly.
Don't skimp on the length of time to freeze the bowl
Don't use warm ingredients - make sure your ingredients are refrigerated or it won't freeze properly.
If it doesn't freeze within the required time - turn the micture out of the bowl, refreeze the bowl for 12 hours and then try again. The 40 minute safety timer cannot be overridden - it is designed the protect the motor. After 40 minutes, the bowl will be too defrosted to cool the product anyway. Don;t take the bowl out of the freezer until you are ready to pour the ingredients in - then plug the machine in and start the machine BEFORE you pour the mixture in - or it will freeze as it touches the bowl and the beater won't turn.
If you follow the instructions properly - it really cannot fail.
NOTE - the ice cream maker does not make hard ice cream - no machine will do that, not even professional ones. It is designed to incorporate as much air as possible into the mixture as it freezes it to a soft consistency - like a very thick milk shake - but not pourable. Once the machine is done, you can either serve it very soft, or place the bowl into the freezer to allow it to firm up.

We bought this for home use, and feel it's fine for that. Probably wouldn't recommend for retail use. No safety features. Little to no instructions. Spring that helps control shaving blade falls out, as there is nothing to hold it in place. There is a fear that main plastic housing might crack over the long term. On the positive, motor works well. Main pieces decent quality. Came well lubed. All in all, a great product for the price. Would have been very upset if I'd paid $1200, but at $200, great deal. Oh, be aware it is physically very large and heavy.

These look exactly like the picture. The description states these are a stronger version of a previous design. I can see if they were thinner, they'd be quite prone to breaking. They have a nice feel to them, the weight gives a solid feel, the double wall is a neat effect and it keeps drinks cool or hot, as advertised. They have a slight look to show they are handmade, but it's subtle. I'd guess the breakability would be that of a simple drinking glass, no more, no less. I really like these glasses and I am buying more.

Next thing you know, i find that the batteries don't even FIT! its impossible to get all 4 batteries in comfortably.. and after i finished SHOVING the batteries in, next thing you know, half way through the mixing process the batteries pop out of place and it stops working. the whole thing was a waste of money, and seeing as the ones i bought the present for, kept it without complaints, i went ahead and threw away all returning receipts and everything. so i'm stuck with it. .. waste

Nemox "Gelato Chef 2500 PLUS" Professional Ice Cream Maker Review

Nemox Gelato Chef 2500 PLUS Professional Ice Cream Maker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Nemox Gelato Chef 2500 was highly rated in many reviews and at a price of over $850.00, I expected it to produce premium quality ice cream. I am a former chef and currently own a flavor manufacturing business which produces flavorings for ice cream and other desserts. I wanted a quality machine that would produce a premium ice cream for the sampling of my flavors at home.
The operating manual for the Nemox 2500 includes many recipes with every one showing a freeze time of 15 to 20 minutes. Following the recipes to the letter, it takes 45 minutes to an hour to freeze a batch. I've tried over a dozen recipes even incorporating stabilizers into the mix to aid in the creaminess and texture. I used fresh, quality ingredients and pre-chilled the ingredients overnight, along with the bowl and scraper. Still, the ice cream does not freeze to a firm state. All of the ice creams that were packed and placed in a freezer to fully harden had an icy texture when eaten. I am very disappointed with this machine. I've made much better ice cream from machines that cost much, much less.
Another thing that I was disappointed in was the noise that the machine generates. It's very loud! I thought I would be able to make fresh ice cream after dinner while enjoying a movie on television. It's so loud that it makes it difficult to watch anything while the machine is running. I now feel like its a waste of time to try and make good ice cream with this machine. I truly could not recommend it to anyone.

Slushie Express Review

I bought one of these a year ago. My kids used it almost every day during the summer and probably 3-5 times a week even over winter time. We purchased huge jugs of slushie syrup at our local hardware/party rent-a-center.
For the price, we definately got our money's worth, considering how much use we got out of it.
Unfortunately, the little tabs on the cups don't last forever and end up breaking off. Once those tabs are gone....the machine will not work since the tabs have to be in place (safety issue).
So my only complaint is they should make the tabs more durable and also it would be nice to have a few extra cups included w/the purchase of the machine.
If the tabs lasted longer then it would definately get 5 stars from me.

Ninja Master Prep Professional Blender, Chopper and Ice Crusher More Powerful & 2x Faster Review

Ninja Master Prep Professional Blender, Chopper and Ice Crusher More Powerful and 2x Faster
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this chopper a couple of months ago. What I intended to buy the Ninja for has been great, so I will rate it on that. I will also review the issues I have with it.
I bought the Ninja to replace my small chopper. I absolutely love the double blade system, because it chops things very consistently; which was the reason I replaced my old chopper. I did not buy this to replace a blender OR a food processor, the `blender' was just an added bonus.
When chopping small things, it has been fabulous! My old chopper, like Ninja's spokesperson claims, turned the bottom food to mush, while the top food is still unchopped. With the Ninja, as long as I `pulse' as the instructions recommend, it works great. I've noticed, though, if I push down the power and leave it down, (usually when I'm in a hurry) I end up with the same results as my old chopper, so the key really is to `pulse'.
When it comes to ease of use, the Ninja is not:
-The motor on top is too big and bulky: My old chopper was a hand held immersion blender/chopper, so the handheld motor was interchangeable with the wand and the chopper bowl. If I needed to add other ingredients or push the contents down with a spoon, I could grab the motor (attached to the lid) with one hand and have the spoon or contents in my other hand to add. With the Ninja, I have to pull the motor off with both hands (because it is so bulky) then pry the lid off with both hands (because of the suction) then I can add the stuff. But then I have to realign the motor back onto the lid, sometimes it goes on easily, sometimes it doesn't (if you get easily frustrated with things, this isn't the system for you).
-The blade shaft goes directly into the motor, instead of the motor attaching to a lid: This `seems' like it would work fine, until you fill the bowl and the contents get on the shaft of the blades; which will inevitably happen because the blades have to be in place before you can add the contents. With my old chopper, I added the blade, then the lid had a gear that fit with the blade shaft, and the motor was geared with the lid. So, if I got yogurt or any sort of slop on the blade shaft, it would be on the lid, which could be thrown into the dishwasher. With the Ninja, the blade goes directly into the motor. So, after you fill the bowl with food, you need to make sure you wipe the shaft of the blade off, before it goes into the motor, because you can't put the motor in the dishwasher, and unless you wrap the end of something very slender with a wet rag, you won't get the slop out of the motor...especially in the little cracks.
-The blades take up all the room: Once you have your blades set in the bowl, the stuff you add has to be small enough to fall in around the blades. So, you have to pre-chop before putting it in the chopper, which sort of defeats the purpose of the chopper in the first place (unless you're a really slow chopper like me, then it's perfect)!
As far as the `blender' feature, I wasn't all that impressed. Since it is winter time, I haven't had a need for blended or shaved ice (I can get that in the yard), so I can't rate how well it blends ice. I did, however, try to blend a pot of soup into bisque, and it didn't turn out very smooth at all. I ended up using my immersion blender to finish it. I noticed another reviewer mentioned that you have to keep moving the ice around, to get the smooth shaved ice. That's what I had to do with my soup. I thought with three blades, it would move the contents around enough to blend it up, but it didn't, even when pulsing. I ran into the same problem when trying to make faux mashed potatoes out of cauliflower (gotta try everything with picky eaters). The cauliflower was cut into bite sized pieces and steamed before it was put into the blender. When I was blending it, it was just `stirring' it all together, instead of `blending' it. I had to keep taking off the lid and pushing the cauliflower down with a spoon to get it to `blend'. It finally did `blend' but with much poking and prodding, I will probably just use the immersion blender next time, less hassle.
I also need to point out, when I first got my Ninja, I was getting ready to use it and my father in law pulled out the blades to look at them. I didn't notice how they were put back in the bowl, but they fit in and looked right, and it was the first time I used it. It made a god-awful racket, and it wasn't chopping anything. I took the motor off, and saw plastic shavings on the top of the lid. My husband came and flipped the second blade over and it worked fine. Since the blade and the motor gears were stripped, we took it back to the store, and I decided to get another one. The new one has worked fine (as long as the blades are in correctly) but I'm a little weary as to how long they will last this time.
In conclusion, if you are looking for a blender or food processor, I would look somewhere else. It is a very good chopper, but for the price, I think next time, I'll stick with the immersion blender/chopper. I think Shark missed their demographic...it isn't powerful enough or versatile enough to replace the food processor or blender, yet it's too bulky and meaty for a regular chopper.
